What a funny name for a medical condition, I hear you say! But developing CTS - or Carpal Tunnel Syndrome - is no laughing matter. It is one of the most expensive of all work-related injuries, when you add up the treatment costs and the time off from work. CTS is a fairly common problem in assembly-line workers who are for example, involved in manufacturing, finishing, cleaning and packaging of goods. And, as any sufferer will vouch for, it's not funny. In fact it can result in excruciating pain. Research by bodies such as the National Institute of Health indicates that CTS is three times more likely to affect woman than men, and that middle age is the most common time for it to strike. The good news is that we can certainly help when it comes to carpal tunnel treatment. Please read on.
Put simply, carpal tunnel syndrome is a repetitive stress injury to the wrist. As chiropractors we have no difficulty in diagnosing the problem, and then providing effective carpal tunnel treatment for it. The "culprit" is frequently repeated actions, usually in the wrong posture too while working. In time it can manifest as severe pain, for example in your right wrist if you are right-handed. CTS takes its name from the wrist bones (carpals) which form a tunnel through which the median nerve travels from the forearm to the hand. The symptoms of CTS include pain and numbness in the thumb, index and middle finger, accompanied by a tingling feeling in the hand which may feel weak too. Shooting pains up the arm may also add to general discomfort. The good news is that help is at hand down at our state-of-the-art Chiropractic Center.
Some of us will be more prone to CTS because we may have narrower carpal tunnels, as this can lead to compression of the median nerve more readily. Then again others may develop CTS as a direct result of an injury to the wrist that can go on to cause painful swelling in the area. Whatever the cause, we will assess the problem for you, and provide you with an effective carpal tunnel treatment program. For more information, check out this link to the American Chiropractic Association website. What can be done to help prevent CTS? The American Chiropractic Association has a number of useful tips that can help prevent the onset of the condition. Follow the advice provided there, and minimize the risk of developing it. Or, put differently, avoid the problem and also avoid the need for carpal tunnel treatment at all!
Chiropractors treat Carpal Tunnel Syndrome in various ways, but in many cases we find that a chiropractic adjustment to the affected area of the wrist proves most effective. But of course as Chiropractors we don't just treat the symptom: we first make a diagnosis after examining you, and going through a comprehensive check list together with you too. This ensures that we have covered all the bases, so that we can propose an effective treatment program specifically tailored for you. Sometimes we find that a misalignment of the back or neck vertebrae can also result in CTS, and then chiropractic manipulation of those areas could likely be the solution. Complete elimination of the problem relies on various stretching exercises as well as physical therapy to strengthen the affected area. With us, you will be literally in good hands. Contact the Bodnar Chiropractic Clinic today so that we can help return you to good health through our carpal tunnel treatment program.
While some of us are going to be more prone to carpal tunnel syndrome, many of us can avoid this work-related problem by looking after ourselves and watching our posture while we perform repetitive functions at work.
